Originally named the Gypsy in 1873 in Montreal, the vessel was rebuilt in Kingston in 1880, and renamed the Ella Ross.
The Ella Ross caught fire while in dock at Parry Sound Harbour, and burned to a complete loss. The remains of the hull sit at the bottom of the heavily traveled Parry Sound Harbour.
